The name Kargil has many memories and pride associated. On July 26, the Indian army fought to win back the encroached Indian territory from Pakistan. Since then, on July 26 we observe Kargil Vijay Diwas to pay tribute to the brave souls who lost their lives. The day also values the existing Indian soldiers serving the country.

The Indian army launched Kargil Vijay Diwas to commemorate the operation “Vijay” to re-capture the Indian territories from Pakistan intruders. After a 60-day long war and the loss of several lives on both sides, India eventually won the battle. It reclaimed control over all the previously held territories. The war of Kargil conflict took place between May 3 and July 26, 1999. To honour the Kargil war’s heroes who lost their lives for the country in many parts of the country, many organizations organize events and functions on that day.

What Is Operation Vijay

The war started taking its shape when both Pakistani troops and terrorists started permeating into Indian territory. The squatters occupied some of the most important sites to have some deliberate benefit during the start of the conflict. According to the local shepherds, the Indian army could discover infiltration points and launched operation Vijay to gain control back.

By June 30, 1999, the Indian force was prepared for a significant high-altitude attack against Pakistanis in the contested Kashmir region. As a part of their preparation over the last six weeks, India moved 5 infantry divisions, 44 battalions, 5 independent task forces of paramilitary troops in Kashmir. There was around 730,000 total Indian troop in the region.

The Indian troop moved towards the inhabited Pakistani positions, and they were covered by aircraft and helicopters. Operation Vijay was a joint operation of many bodies to expel the Pakistani soldiers of the northern light Infantry. On July 26, the war was finally declared to come to an end.
